at Chillicothe 3, Cameron 1

Chillicotheís crosshairs definitely were not set on the goal today as they outshot the Lady Dragons 26 to 9, but could only muster 3 goals.  Today though, three goals were enough as the dropped the Cameron team 3-1.   Eighteen of those shots came in the first half and the Lady Hornets were only able to connect on one, but the good thing about it was it came from a Madeline Brick corner kick finding freshman Leslee Moore who banked it in against the Cameron keeper in the 33rd minute to take the lead.  That was Chillicotheís first goal off of a corner kick so far this season.  Chillicothe controlled most of the tempo in the half, with great play coming from the midfield play of Lacey Nibarger, who once again played well on both sides of the ball.  Nibarger had one play where she made several cuts around defenders and got off a left footed shot blocked by the keeper.  This was one play that stands out because we have stressed those kind of moves all season.  Madeline Brick was moved into the midfield and had a good game setting up a few chances for a goal, firing two shots herself.  Gaining a lot of time were newcomers Brooke Thomas and Moore as they played well and were seeing movement without the ball.  The first half saw Cameron only have 5 shots on goal, with their ace Raelene Blanton getting all five, but tallying zero, much of this due to the ever presence of Catherine Tipton, who was instructed by Coach Allison to follow her to the bench if needed.  Blanton scored 9 goals against Chillicothe last season.  This was a tremendous feat because many times Tipton was pushed or elbowed away from the ball, but caught up to thwart off the attack.  Brooke Westcott, Addie Stottlemyre and Echo Followwill worked well also, as many times they were just playing with three actual defenders, with Tipton out of place marking Blanton.  The first half ended with Chillicothe up 1-0, but knowing Cameron could bounce back at anytime in the second half.

The second half with legs tiring, a lot of the attack was gone as Chillicothe outshot Cameron 8-4.  Cameron would score first in the second half as Blanton rolled off Tipton to make a run to goal, with no one else making a challenge, Blanton would get a hard shot off but was blocked by Meredith Brick, but the ball rolled out in front of the goal allowing Breanna Branson to gather the rebound and place it over Brick for their first and only goal.  It would only take 8 minutes for the Lady Hornets to regain the lead as Rochelle Gillilan battled her way through the defense and then laid a beautiful ball back to Kylie Barton who got the shot past the keeper for her first goal of the season off of Gillilanís assist.  Again Tipton had the one on one duties with Blanton and shut her down the second half, definitely gaining the game ball if one was presented.  Chillicothe would answer with an insurance goal in the 77th minute by Gillilan with a shot like a rocket past the keeper unassisted.  The final whistle blew as Chillicothe picked up their 5th win of the season, after a couple tough losses to a couple good teams in the Excelsior Springs Tournament.
