9/05/09 Putnam County Tournament


    Chillicothe finished second in the Putnam County Tournament, beating Brookfield 13-1 in the first round, beating South Harrison 4-0 in the second round then losing to Kirksville 1-0 in the championship round
 


Game 1: Chillicothe jumped out to an early lead and rolled over Brookfield 13-1 in six innings. Chillicothe banged out 17 hits and allowed just three. "Our bats came alive and pitching was great" stated Chillicothe coach Stan Baldwin. "Sarah (Baldwin) hit a monster 250' home run".

Game 2: A three run fourth inning helped give Chillicothe a 4-0 win over South Harrison. Chillicothe had 13 hits in the game but stranded nine runners on base. At the plate, Sarah Baldwin picked up her first no-hitter of the season, with no walks and 16 strikeouts.

Championship:  Fans were treated to a pitching dual for the championship game. Chillicothe's Baldwin allowed just two hits and one walk with 12 strike outs, but Bishop of Kirksville threw a no-hitter giving Kirksville a 1-0 win. "We made the mistake in the 5th inning, a one run loss against a very good team and a Division I pitcher" stated Hornets coach Stan Baldwin. Chillicothe falls to 5-2 on the season
