The
Chillicothe Hornets opened their second century of basketball
in nail biting fashion, hitting 6 of 10 free throws in the
final three minutes to beat St Joseph Benton at home.
Benton led by 2 after the first quarter and went on a
12-0 run in the second quarter to lead by 14. Chillicothe
started chipping away at the lead and finished the first half
on an 8-0 run to trail by just 6 points.
Chillicothe Senior Zach Douglas hit his second of two
third quarter treys late in the third to give Chillicothe a 2
point lead they would never relinquish the rest of the game.
Chillicothe led by three heading into the fourth quarter.
Benton tied it up briefly on free throws early in the fourth
but never led again.
The Cardinals closed it to one point with just over
three minutes left but a series of free throws along with a
fast break lay-up in the final three minutes gave Chillicothe
the win. Benton's Chris Young attempted a 2/3rds court shot at
the buzzer but it fell just short.
Chillicothe heads to Moberly on Thursday then hosts
