Grable)
The Chillicothe Boys Soccer team took
the momentum from an improved game Tuesday night into the game at
Cameron on Thursday. With a strong showing from the defensive side
of the ball the Hornets grabbed their first victory of the season by
beating the Cameron Dragons 3-2. The game did not start out well as
Cameron was awarded a penalty kick within the first 4 minutes of the
game. However, Troy Toedebusch was able block the attempt and keep
the score 0-0.
The first goal of the game was scored by freshman
Steven Cooper on a nicely played through ball by Chris Kleinschmidt
to make the score 1-0. With about 5 minutes left in the first half
the Dragons got on the board with a score from Graiden Vanbrun. The
score at halftime was 1-1.
The opening of the second half did not start well as a
the Dragons were able to get a quick score in the first 3 minutes of
the half from Zach Weichman to give Cameron a 2-1 lead. However, the
Hornet defense clamped down and did not allow many other scoring
opportunities to the Dragons. So, with the defense settling in the
forwards and midfielders were able to start making plays of their
own. Chance McLemore was able to get a nice shot off from outside
the box that deflected off a Cameron defender and into the back of
the net to knot the score at 2-2.
With many other opportunities putting pressure on the
Cameron defense they finally broke down and committed a penalty in
the box. As was the case on Tuesday night, Laine Saunders came and
converted the penalty kick to give the Hornets a 3-2 lead they would
not give back. Troy Toedebusch and Jimmy Chapman shared time in the
net for the Hornets who improved to 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in
conference. |
