Thomas Cassity
was the overall winner of the Chillicothe Invitational held at
Danner Park. Chillicothe nipped Kirksville by two points to win the
team title.
"Thomas ran the best race I have ever seen him run"
stated Coach Tim Riekena. "He led it from start to finish looking
strong and improved his time from the same course last year by 20
seconds." Riekena also applauded Sophomore Andrew Jensen who
finished in third, just eight seconds behind Cassity, Freshman Kolby
Eller and Caleb Coleman and Mitchell Smith who both improved their
times over last year.
On the Girls side, Chillicothe recorded a team score
for the first time in more than a decade, finishing 5th. Three time
state qualifier Mary Kate Taylor fought off a sinus cold to finish
third place. Riekena complimented the rest of his girls team members
for dropping their times. The remaining five girls are in their
first year of Cross Country.
