The Chillicothe Lady Hornets Soccer team notched its
first win of the season with a 1-0 decision over the Cameron Lady
Dragons Friday afternoon at the Excelsior Springs tournament. The
Hornets came out strong early and winger Laura Turner finished a
nice offensive build up with a low shot to the right corner on an
assist from Jordan Gardner with five minutes gone in the half. The
rest of the half was a stalemate as the wet playing conditions made
ball control difficult for both teams. After halftime, a renewed
emphasis on good touches and spreading the field led to several
scoring opportunities for Chillicothe. Forwards Lacey Nibarger and
Kylie Barton both put six shots on goal but unfortunately neither
player could find the back of net. Sophomore midfielders Leslee
Moore and Brooke Thomas controlled much of the play in the middle
which allowed Chillicothe to transition smoothly into its offense.
The defensive back line consisting of Anna Luetticke, Hope Peters,
Echo Followwill and Carly Anderson kept the Cameron forwards at bay
for most of the game, only allowing four shots which were easily
cleaned up by keeper Cyrsten Lollar, who collected her second career
shutout. The Lady Hornets’ next game will be in the consolation
championship Saturday morning at 9:00 against Savannah. |
