The Chillicothe
Lady Hornet soccer team played in the consolation championship of
the Excelsior Springs tournament Saturday morning against Savannah
losing 2 to 0. The frigid playing conditions affected the play of
both teams as the gale force winds kept either side from gaining any
momentum. Savannah struck early with a goal three minutes into the
game and then again five minutes later to make it 2 to 0. The Lady
Hornets fought back and put together some nice offensive runs but
were unable to get by the strong efforts of the Savannah goalkeeper.
The rest of the game was back and forth but in the end Chillicothe
couldn’t muster any goals. Although the Hornets lost two of three
games including a 3 to 1 loss to North Kansas City in their opener,
the coaching staff has seen great improvement throughout the
tournament in terms of offensive possession and defense. The Hornets
play next at Cameron on Monday, a team that they defeated 1 to 0 on
Saturday. |
