10/14/11
- at Maryville 56, Chillicothe 13
Maryville's Jr Fullback Cole Forney had five touchdowns in the
first half to help the Spoofhounds roll to a 56-13 home win
over Chillicothe. Forney scored on runs of 4, 20, and 3 yards
in the 1st quarter and 30 and 4 yards in the 2nd quarter to
give his team a 33-0 lead at the half.
Chillicothe had no answer for the Maryville offensive
line, and no answer for the quickness of their defense. The
Hornets managed just four first downs in the first half, plus
lost two-way starter Jacob Lewis (Sr) to what appeared to be a
serious ankle injury. Chillicothe lost fumbles on two
consecutive plays however Maryville only managed to convert
one into points.
In the second half, Chillicothe opened play with an 11
play 65 yard drive that ended when Sophomore QB Tyler Clampitt
found Sr Guy Vinson in the end zone for a 26 yard touchdown.
Maryville answered with another long touchdown drive,
their 4th scoring drive of more than 65 yards. Chillicothe
refused to give up, answering with a 10 play, 81 yard drive
that had Clampitt finding fellow Sophomore Ryan Smith in the
end zone for an 18 yard touchdown. Chillicothe recovered the
on-sides kick off, but failed to pick up a first down.
The Spoofhounds scored twice in the fourth quarter for
the win.
While Maryville racked up numerous records at the
expense of the Hornets, including scoring the most points
against Chillicothe since 1928 and allowing the fewest rushing
yards by Chillicothe since 1960, there were bright spots in
the Hornets passing game.
With the Hornet rushing game shut down completely
(22 carries, 10 yards) The Hornet Quarterbacking of Tyler
Clampitt and Jake Mathew combined for 19 completions out of 34
attempts for 193 yards. The 19 completions tied the team
single game record set in 1970. Sophomore Tyler Clampitt went
14 of 25 for 164 yards and two touchdowns, and Sophomore Ryan
Smith led the receiving corps with 5 catches for 79 yards
against the Maryville starting defense. Clampitt's 14
completions are the most for a Hornet player in a single game
since 1993.
