(Story by Coach Lance Harvey)
What a
difference a day makes. The Chillicothe Lady Hornets soccer team,
fresh off a solid win over St. Joe Benton on Monday, fell on Tuesday
to the Lady Knights of Kansas City Lutheran by a score of 9-1.
The first twenty minutes passed with Chillicothe
playing defense as K.C. Lutheran’s offensive unit put together
several scoring opportunities. Good goalkeeper play by Brooke
Jettleson kept the score knotted at 0-0. The Lady Knights offensive
tenacity paid off in the 21st minute as sophomore phenom, Sierra
Grimm scored the first of her fourgoals and then added two more
within a five minute span. KC Lutheran added another goal in the
35th minute to make it 4-0. Soon after Hornets fortunes seemed to
turn around when freshman forward Samantha Baldwin collected a cross
from Kylie Barton and buried a hard shot into the back of the net to
make the score 4-1 at halftime.
In the second half the Lady Hornets were unable to
generate any momentum and the Lady Knights continued their scoring
barrage with five more goals to set the final score. Coach Lance
Harvey had these comments about the game, “ KC Lutheran has some
really quality players but the fact of the matter is, we were
mentally unprepared to play today. Coming off a win, we should never
come out flat like we did today. As coach, I take responsibility for
that. I guarantee it won’t happen again.”
The Lady Hornets have a full week off until their next
game in the Excelsior Springs tournament. Games and starting times
are yet to be announced. |
