The Lady
Hornets soccer team came home with the third place trophy from the
eight team Excelsior Springs tournament this weekend. The hardware
came courtesy of a 1-0 victory over North Kansas City High School on
Saturday afternoon. Regrouping after a 10-0 semi-final loss on
Friday to eventual tournament champs Liberty North, the Hornets put
together one of their best defensive games of the season against NKC.
The ladies created several scoring opportunities in the
first have but were unable to finish at the net until the 25th
minute when senior forward, Kylie Barton, settled the ball from
about 18 yards out and fired a hard shot into the right of the goal.
Chillicothe played into a stiff wind in the second half but
maintained their lead against the opposing NKC Hornets on the
strength of defenders Hope Peters, CyrstenLollar, Carley Anderson
and Ashiah St. Onge. Sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Jettleson picked up
her second shut out of the season by contributing three point blank
saves against the NKC offense toward the end of the game. Coaches
Lance Harvey and Mark Dujmovic stated that they were impressed with
the Lady Hornets mental and physical toughness after playing three
games in four days. “These girls don’t have any quit in them. They
play hard the whole game and they are becoming more and more
confident with each win. |
