It was a heartbreaking loss for the Chillicothe
Girls Soccer team, which fell at home to Lafayette 4 to 3 in a match
decided by penalty kicks.
Lafayette scored first in the opening two minutes but
Chillicothe responded with goals by Lindy Saunders and by Sarah
Hussey off an assist by Saunders to lead 2-1 at intermission.
Chillicothe expanded that to a 3-1 lead early in the second half
with a goal by Kylie Barton off a beautiful cross field feed from
Lindy Saunders.
Lafayette wasn’t done, scoring midway through the
second half then scoring the tying goal with 5:32 left in
regulation. After two scoreless 10-minute overtimes the game came
down to penalty kicks with Lafayette making three of their first
four and Chillicothe two of their first four. The game winning kick
by Lafayette just went over the Lady Hornets goalkeeper’s fingertips
and just under the crossbar.
