The Chillicothe Lady Hornets took Third
in the Carthage two-day softball tournament, considered the toughest
tournament in Missouri.
Chillicothe opened on Friday with a 6-2
win over Monett with Annie Turbyfill picking up the win. The Lady
Hornets banged out 12 hits in the contest, led by Sam Baldwin's 3
for 4 performance. The Lady Hornets then beat McDonald County 4-1
thanks to a three run fifth inning. Sarah Baldwin picked up the win,
allowing just three hits with two walks and ten strike outs. Sam and Sarah
Baldwin each had two hits, with Erin Gilliland and Brooke Doss picking
up one each.
On Saturday, Chillicothe lost to Webb City in the
semifinals 6-0. Coach Stan Baldwin called Webb City the best Class 4
team in the state. Sarah Baldwin took the loss, allowing six runs,
four
earned with eight hits, no walks and six strike outs. Chillicothe managed
just two hits in the game and had three errors.
The Lady Hornets then picked up a big win over Platte
County to win third place 5-4, picking up the winning run thanks to a
walk off home run by Annie Turbyfill in the five inning contest.
Turbyfill was the starting pitcher with Sarah Baldwin pitching the
final two innings for the win.
