Two men with a combined 30 years experience guiding the Chillicothe
Hornet wrestling program retired from those coaching duties at the
annual Chillicothe wrestling banquet. Head Coach Dave Kinen is
retiring after 12 seasons due to health reasons. Assistant Coach Ken
Stull, who has been an Assistant Coach for 18 years told the crowd
that he would be going out along with Kinen.
Stull stated he would step down to a part time
volunteer coaching roll to help with statisticss and fill in as an
assistant coach when needed. Michael Marriott will take over for
Stull and the school district is currentlysearching for a
replacement for Head Coach Kinen, who continues his fight with A.L.S.
In the awards presentation, the High Point Award went to
Kyler Sewell, the Hustle Award to Cameron Breeden, the Most Improved
Award to Austin Anderson and the Ideal Wrestler Award to Tanner
Thompson, who also won the Chris Early Memorial Scholarship Award.
The team will graduate 3 seniors from the team that
tied the school record with 15 team victories this season.
Kyler Sewell became just the third Hornet
wrestler, and the first freshman, to win 39 matches in a season.
Sewell finished 9th all time in season match points with 325
and 9th all time in takedowns in a season with 78
Tanner Thompson finished with 71 varsity wins in
his career, Cameron Breeden and Austin Anderson both
finished with 50 wins in their varsity careers.
Sewell led the team this season in wins, team poins,
decisions, technical falls, takedowns, 3 point near falls
and 1st takedowns. He tied with Jonathan Stanfield in most
major decisions and tied with Luke Plummer with most
reversals. Anthony Garcia led the team in escapes, Stanfield
led in most 2 point near falls and Austin Anderson and
Cameron Breeden tied for most falls.
