Day Three
Sewell went 1-1 in his final day of the MSHSAA wrestling championships, finishing in 5th place in the Class 2 113 pound division. Sewell started Saturday with a 6-0 loss to Sam Hughes of Bolivar to put Sewell into the 5th place match. Sewell then edged out a difficult 2-1 decision over a Senior from Winfield high school to earn the 5th place medal.

Day Two

Chillicothe may only have one wrestler at the State Tournament, but Kyler Sewell is making the most of his experience. The Hornet’s 113 pound freshman won two out of three matches on Friday to earn a chance at a medal Saturday.
Sewell started Friday losing by pin in 2:48 to a Seneca wrestler with a 54-2 record. Sewell battled back later in the morning with a win by pin in 2:57 over Adam Seward of St Joseph Benton. Friday night Sewell beat an Owensville freshman 7-0.
Sewell will wrestle Sam Hughes of Bolivar who has a 47-9 record. Hughes lost in the semifinals. The winner of the match will then wrestle for third place and the loser will wrestle for 5th place.

Day One

Chillicothe’s lone competitor in the State Wrestling Champions won his first match of the tournament. The Hornets’ 113 pound Freshman Kyler Sewell defeated a Cape Girardeau Notre Dame freshman by pin in 3:09.
Chillicothe High School Principal Brian Sherrow, who is also a former wrestling coach, said Sewell started strong and never let up

Next up for Sewell is a quarterfinal meeting Friday against a Freshman from Seneca who has a 53-2 record. Sherrow says the Seneca wrestler dominated his first opponent.

The biggest news from the area is that Brookfield’s defending state champion at 113 pounds was scratched due to a dermatology condition. Sherrow says the wrestler was cleared by a Brookfield doctor, but the Tournament on-site physician would not clear him to wrestle. Sherrow says the scratch changes the dynamics of the Class 1 team title picture.
