Four years ago
a freshmen stepped onto the soccer field at Danner Park, determined
to help establish the young Chillicothe Hornets Soccer program. Four
years later at the new Jerry Litton Stadium, Grant Peterson helped
lead the Hornets to a record setting season and will now continue
his soccer career at Westminster College in Fulton, MO.
Peterson officially signed a letter of intent with what
he calls "a really great Liberal Arts College". He expects to
continue playing a familiar position.
"They likely
will keep me at the wing position like coach Cunningham had me at"
stated Peterson. "I have speed attributes that help me out there a
lot."
Peterson's high school coach, Tim Cunningham, says
Grant has a lot of tools that will help him in college.
"Grant brings dedication, a ton of will power,
strength... he wants to compete and he's a huge reason why we had
the success we had this season."
Peterson is the third Hornets soccer player this season
to sign on the collegiate level, joining Wade Dietz and Brice
Griffin with additional signings expected. Cunningham says it makes
him proud to see athletes continue their sport into college.
"They put in
the work and the time to become better players. They've had the
desire to be a better player and now they're going to get a chance
to continue their career in college".
Westminster's Boys Soccer program went 10-7-2 this
season.
