Senior runner Andrew Jensen finished his Cross Country career with a
38th place finish out of 170 runners in the Class 3 State Meet held
in Jefferson City. It was Jensen's third straight trip to the state
meet, improving on his 85th place finish last year. Jenson also
trimmed almost a minute off last year's time, finishing this year in
17:36 compared to last year's time of 18:34.
"Andrew has been quite consistent this year" commented
Head Coach Tim Riekena. "It has made him a mature competitor. I know
he's already looking forward to (spring) track season."
After a rare two false starts on the cross country
field, Jensen started out strong, running his first mile in 5:09 for
12th place. At mile two he had dropped to 26th place with a mile
split of 5:36 and at mile three he was in 39th place with a mile
split of 6:09.
"He was able to catch a runner on the last uphill
toward the finish" stated Coach Riekena. Jensen was more than a
minute behind the winning runner from St Louis MICDS, who won the
event in 16:24.
Riekena says Jensen will be missed next year. "It
has been a joy working with Andrew these past four years. He's a
hard worker and I wish him the best."
Jensen is the only three time male cross country
state qualifier in Chillicothe school history.
