From Coach Bob Long:
Chillicothe (1-1) varsity boys' tennis
team, lost to Marshall, 1-8, Tuesday at Danner Park . Gabe Poling
had the lone Chillicothe win, with a hard fought 10-2 victory over
Isaac Summers. In Nate McKiddy's tennis debut he lost to Gerritt
Murphy, 2-10. Nate was able to keep Gerritt off balance, but unable
to win a game from the more experienced player. Garrett Peterson was
in every game, but lost to Jack Hemeyer, 4-10. Nathan Sims was able
to get off to a good start against Marshall's John Hadley, but was
unable to keep pace losing 2-10. Brandon Lamp lost 0-10 to the much
more experienced Andrew Markes. Quentin Lewis fought hard throughout
the match, but lost 1-10 to Jude Staley.
In doubles the team of McKiddy and Poling lost
7-9 to Summers and Murphy. Tied at 7-7, the Chillicothe duo were
fighting for pride, but was unable to pull it out. In the number 2
doubles match, Peterson and Sims lost 2-8 to Hemeyer and Hadley. In
the final doubles match Lewis and Lamp didn't give in, but were
defeated 2-8 by Markes and Staley
The Hornets played competitively against a team
that has a lot more experience. Gabe Poling continues to lead the
team and won a match that was closer than the score indicates. Gabe
just seems to win all of the important points. Nate McKiddy improves
daily and as basketball fans know he has the quickest hands around.
Garrett Peterson was also part of a closely fought contest.
