5/13/2014 Lady Hornets
at Lafayette 3, Chillicothe 2 - Penalty Kicks (4-3)
Story By Coach Lance Harvey.
Another heartbreaking overtime loss for the Chillicothe
Hornets soccer team on Tuesday night, this time against St. Joe
Lafayette. The Hornets built a 2-0 first half lead over the Irish on
the strength of goals from Lindy Saunders and Hannah Jones. But
Chilli was unable to hold the lead in the second half, allowing two
Lafayette goals and missing on several opportunities to score. In
the ensuing overtime periods neither team was able to find the back
of the net and the game went to penalty kicks for the third time in
five games. Chillicothe made three of their five attempts but the
Irish were one kick better, converting four of five. The final score
was recorded as a 3-2 loss.
"We played very well despite the ridiculous field
conditions. Not to take anything away from Lafayette, they are a
good team with a lot of experienced players. We are just having a
hard time scoring when we are in front of the goal right now. The
girls played hard but we really missed having our fastest players,
Hannah (knee) and Karson (hip) out with injuries for the last part
of the second half and overtime. Hopefully we can get everyone
healed up before our district match-up with Cameron."
