Lady Hornets Head
Coach Ed Douglas says: "The Lady Hornets moved a step
closer to a District Championship with a 5-0 victory over
Maryville Monday at Danner Courts. Maryville the fourth seed
had beaten Cameron early in the day 5-0 to advance to the
semifinals of District. This improves the Hornets record to
13-2 for the year. Next up for the Hornets is the winner of
the Savannah-Trenton match also played Monday.
" Savannah is the #2 seed so I expect them to win
although anything can happen. Although we beat Savannah 7-2
when we played them earlier in the year, three of our wins
were very, very close and could
have gone either way. If they had won those close matches we
would have lost 4-5. Therefore I expect this match to be a
dogfight that could go either way, particularly with a
District Championship on the line."
"This match is Wednesday at 4 at Danner and I
would hope we have a big crowd to watch since the match is at
home. Then Thursday is the individual District tournament also
at home at Danner starting at 9. This determines who of our
players advances to Sectionals and then if they win there goes
on to Springfield."
" We have accomplished a few of the goals we set
for the team at the beginning of the year. We won the MEC
Conference for the second year in a row with a 6-0 record
which was one of our goals. Then at the Individual Conference
meet our players all medaled winning 1st and 2nd in singles
and 1st and 4th in doubles, which is really tough to do with 7
teams. Our next goal is to win the District Title and that
only happens if we beat Savannah/Trenton winner Wednesday.
Thursday then will focus on getting as many players to qualify
for sectionals as possible. I hope many of our fans will come
out both Wednesday at 4 and Thursday throughout the day
beginning at 9 am." |
