The Lady Hornets continued their great season run
Thursday by qualifying 4 players for Sectionals to be held Tuesday
in St Joe. In the 5 team District hosted by Chillicothe, Sydnie
Whiteside and Ali Stephens were seeded #1st and 2nd in the 10 entry
tournament. They met their seeds by dominating the rest of the
competition. The finals went according to the seeds with Sydnie
winning 6-1 6-2. " It was a fun to watch and a well played match."
" There may not be any team in the State that has two
girls as good as our two. They really dominate the competition."
Kelly Westphal and Chelsea Long also qualified for Sectionals by
winning two matches and then losing a tough three set match in the
finals to a very good Savannah team. " Our doubles team was a little
disappointed that they didn't win it all after winning the first
set, but going into the day if you would have asked me if I would be
really pleased qualify four I would have said absolutely." Second
gets us into the Sectional which is the most important thing. Jozie
Reeter and Therese Taylor also won a doubles match before losing to
the second seed in the quarterfinals. " They played well also but
had a tough draw."
Next up is Sectional for individuals at St Joe Tuesday
afternoon. All three of our entries will play one match against
winners and runners up from District 15. We are in District 16.
Winners of all three matches will go to Springfield in a couple of
weeks. Chillicothe after winning Team District Wednesday will host
three other Districts Saturday the 19th at 9 at Danner. "We have a
tough draw in Sectionals meeting Barstow (who beat Pembroke). Their
number 1 player is the defending State Champ and is a fantastic
player. I am looking forward to Sydnie getting a chance to play her.
The entire match will be fun and we hope all our fans will come out
to see it.
