     The Chillicothe Hornet Boys tennis team (4-1) traveled to St Joseph and played the Benton Cardinals at Noyes courts Monday. Chillicothe defeated the Benton squad 9-0, with five of the victories coming by way of forfeit. Gabe Poling continued his winning ways by defeating Bostyn Horn 8-0. Gabe has won all nine of his singles matches this season, including four wins on his road to the Cameron Invitational singles championship. Garrett Peterson defeated Austin Turner of Benton 8-0. Hornet junior Nate McKiddy won the final singles match 8-0, over Cardinal Payton Redemer. In doubles, the Chillicothe duo of Peterson and McKiddy defeated their singles counterparts Turner and Redemer 8-0. Garrett Peterson and Nate McKiddy are 7-2 in doubles this season, including the second place finish at the Cameron Invitational. Hornets Brandon Lamp, Cody Evans and Steen Anthony received forfeits from the depleted Benton team.
     The three freshmen varsity players for Benton received valuable experience and will be a competitive group in the years to come. The Hornets play another St Joseph conference opponent Bishop LeBlond Tuesday at Daryl Danner Park in Chillicothe.
