Hornets Tennis
4/22/2015 at Chillicothe 9, Trenton 0

Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Boys' tennis team (7-1) hosted the Trenton Bulldogs at Daryl Danner Memorial Park. The Hornets took advantage of the inexperienced Bulldog team defeating them 9-0. Gabe Poling defeated Alex Davis 8-0, running his singles record for the year up to 12-0. Garrett Peterson outlasted Jacob Davis 8-4. Garrett has a 6-2 singles record with one of those losses in a tie-breaker. Juniors Nate McKiddy and Brandon Lamp both won 8-1 defeating Bryce Whitney and Isaiah Lickteig respectively. Cody Evans beat Jacob Hall 8-1 and Lane Bonderer won 8-2 against Kade Ockenfels.
In doubles competition, Peterson and McKiddy defeated Davis and Davis 8-0. Poling and Bonderer beat Whitney and Lickteig 8-1. In the final varsity match, Lamp and Evans sealed the sweep with an 8-2 victory over Hall and Ockenfels.
With the closest varsity scores at 8-4, the Hornets won the majority of the games that went to deuce. Alex Davis pushed Gabe Poling, but it doesn't look like it in the score book. Garrett and Cody's matches began close, before the home team pulled away. Recently Nate McKiddy has spent very little time on court in singles or doubles competition. Nate has given up one game in his last four singles matches and won both doubles matches 8-0 since the loss to LeBlond. Cody Evans and Lane Bonderer have quietly compiled 5-2 and 4-1 varsity singles records respectively. Thursday, the Hornets travel to Savannah. Savannah (like Chillicothe) is unbeaten in conference.
