4/28/15 Kirksville 5, at Chillicothe 4

Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornets boys tennis team (8-2) hosted the Kirksville Tigers at Daryl Danner Memorial Park. The Hornets split the singles and lost two of the three doubles matches. Gabe Poling continued his terrific singles play defeating Tyler Hanson 8-4. Gabe got out to a quick start, 5-1, Tyler fought back before eventually giving in. Garrett Peterson lost 4-8 to Kirksville's Christian Polovich. Nate McKiddy defeated Ruslan Pultz 9-7. Another come from behind close victory by Nate. Nate plays the same on game point as he does the first point. Brandon Lamp fought back from an early 0-3 deficit, but didn't quite make it all the way, losing 6-8 to Dorian Sneddon. Cody Evans lost 0-8 to Aaron Ockenfels. Lane Bonderer picked up the third singles victory, defeating Evan Aljundi 8-4.
In number two doubles, Gabe Poling and Lane Bonderer defeated Poltz and Sneddon 8-4. Gabe and Lane won both singles and doubles in the match and gave Chillicothe the 4-3 lead. Brandon Lamp and Cody Evans then lost at number three doubles 3-8 to Ockenfels and Aljundi bringing the match back to a tie. Garrett Peterson and Nate McKiddy battled back and forth before Hanson and Polovich pulled away winning 8-3 in the number one doubles position.
Kirksville was competitive in every position. Lane Bonderer had a good night. He won a tight 8-4 singles match and continues to play well in doubles. Despite playing with the best player in the conference, Gabe Poling, Lane contributes to the doubles victory, continually improving his net play. Nate won a match that could have gone either way, keeping the match close going into doubles play. To the Tigers credit, they were the aggressor in most of the matches, keeping the Hornets on their heels and forcing the Chillicothe players to go for winners from the baseline.
