5/13/2015 Chillicothe 5, Cameron 0
District Team Championship

Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornets Tennis team 15-2 are MEC conference and district fifteen champions. The Hornets defeated the Cameron Dragons 5-0 at Daryl Danner Memorial Park. All three doubles teams took the courts to begin the match. Garrett Peterson and Nate McKiddy beat Daniel Rogers and Jeremy Whitaker 8-0. Gabe Poling and Lane Bonderer won 8-1 against Arthur Muhl and Jake Findley. Brandon Lamp and Cody Evans finished the sweep of doubles winning 8-5 over Gage Zeit and David Curtis. Garrett is 19-4 in doubles on the season and Nate is 18-4. Gabe and Lane are now 9-0 as a doubles team.
In singles, the first two to record a victory bring the match to a close. Gabe Poling defeated Arthur Muhl for the third time this season. This time 6-1, 6-0. Garrett Peterson finished just a couple of minutes before Nate McKiddy. Garrett won 6-2, 6-0 over Daniel Rogers. Unofficially, I added another victory to Nate's season total as well. Making him 12-1 in singles on the season, with his 6-0, 6-4 win over Jeremy Whitaker. Brandon Lamp and Lane Bonderer had each won the first set 6-2 and 6-3 respectively when time had been called. Cody Evans had a commanding 5-1 lead at the time.
After the Championship win the team celebrated with the tennis awards banquet. Team accomplishments include the Cameron Invitational Champions, Benton Invitational Champions, Conference Champions, first place in singles and first place in doubles at the MEC tournament, and now district champions.
Congratulations to the second place Cameron Dragons. The Hornets play individual districts Saturday, May 16 at Danner Park beginning at 8:30 am. The team advances to sectionals and will face Savannah on Saturday, May 23.
