Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornets girls' golf team
(2-0) competed at Green Hills Golf Course against the Trenton
Bulldogs and Putnam County Midgets Wednesday afternoon. Chillicothe
placed first in the competition with a score of 201 against the
scores of 209 and 226 from Putnam County and Trenton respectively.
Hannah Leamer was the medalist with a round of 46. Hannah had a
stretch of holes 5 through 8 in which she played two over and
distanced herself from the rest of the field. Grace Venner shot 49
and finished with the third best round of the meet. With pars on
holes two and eight and consistent play throughout, Grace opened her
season with a great score. Kaylee Thieme shot a 51 and tied for the
fourth best score of the day. Kaylee pared number eight and avoided
having any bad holes. Morgan Dowell completed the scores for
Chillicothe by shooting a 55. Lauren Mason, the final varsity player
shot a 57.
I am extremely pleased at the outcome. Hannah Leamer is
a state qualifier from last year and on any given day anyone of the
other girls could have our second best score. Grace and Kaylee
played in the fourth and fifth spots and were able to come through
with terrific rounds. Morgan and Lauren have been hitting the ball
extremely well and I look forward to watching their play in the
weeks to come. Courtney Reger and Hannah Sherrow competed in junior
varsity action and received valuable experience. Hannah played in
her first high school competition. The Hornets next play Tuesday,
September 2 against Benton, Lafayette and Cameron in St Joseph. |
