Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornets Golf Team (5-0)
played a quad at the Cameron Veteran's Memorial Golf Club in
Cameron. Lafayette and Benton joined in the competition. The Hornets
had the top five scores in the competition led by senior Hannah
Leamer with a 47. Chillicothe took first with a 199, followed by
Lafayette's 240, Benton's 243, and Cameron's 261. Hannah continues
to shoot consistent scores each hole and each round. Lauren Mason
placed second in the competition with a 49. Lauren hits the ball a
long way. She drove the ball to the fringe on the par 4 first hole.
Senior Kaylee Thieme recorded a 51. Kaylee had a rough first hole,
but afterward she was the best player on the course, including par
on numbers three and nine (sinking long putt). Senior Morgan Dowell,
52, opposite Kaylee, played amazing throughout and finished with a
tough hole. Grace Venner fifth overall and fifth on the Hornet squad
shot a 54. Grace hit the ball great, but ran into trouble with the
in-course out of bounds which hurt her score. In Junior varsity
action, Courtney Reger shot a 66. Courtney continues to improve her
swing. On the par 3 third hole, Courtney hit a beautiful tee shot to
the right side of the sloped green.
It was a good test for the Hornets, having to take
their game on the road. Playing on a different course causes one to
lack confidence in the distance and makes chipping and putting an
adventure. The girls' played great and improved on their Green Hills
score by a couple of strokes. The team has a full week, headed to
Richmond on Wednesday and then to St Joseph on Thursday for
tournament play. |
