Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornets (5-0) competed in
the Central Invitational golf tournament Thursday, September 4 at
Fairview Golf course in St Joseph. The Hornets finished 8th out of
the 19 team field. Liberty won the 18 hole event with a score of
367. The Chillicothe team entered a 409 score, only three strokes
from a top five finish.
Sam Paulak from Park Hill received medalist honors with
a score of 84. Senior Morgan Dowell posted the low score for
Chillicothe with a score of 98. Morgan was tied for Nineteenth only
one stroke from a top fifteen score. Morgan, similar to the Tuesday
Cameron event, had one tough hole, then played great the rest of the
round. Hannah Leamer recorded Chillicothe's second score with a 99.
Hannah played consistent golf, but was unable to get on a extended
par streak. Junior Lauren Mason shot a 105. Lauren had consecutive
holes(5 and 6) with one putt pars, which shows the long hitter has
some touch also. Grace Venner completed the teams score with a 105,
shooting par on holes 4 and 10. Kaylee Thieme shot a 112. Kaylee
made par on hole 5, the longest par 4.
This was the first 18 hole event for our team this
season. The girls played some of their best golf in their last few
holes. They continue to improve on last seasons accomplishments and
play consistent golf. I am impressed by the way they overcome
adversity. If they hit a poor shot or have a tough hole, they are
able to put it behind them and continue trying to do their best.
Having five competitive players, any one of which can have a great
day, makes for a great team. The Hornets next competition is
Wednesday, September 10 in the Platte County tournament. |
