Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornets Golf Team (5-0)
traveled to Richmond Wednesday and played at Shirkey Golf Course in
the Richmond Invitational golf tournament. Pembroke Hill took home
top team honors with a score of 353 and Hannah Johnson of
Warrensburg received Medalist honors with a round of 80. The Hornets
placed ninth in the thirteen team field. Morgan Dowell recorded the
low score for Chillicothe with a 105, 31st in the tough 65 player
field. Hannah Leamer shot a 106, followed by Grace Venner's 107.
Lauren Mason's 115 gave the Hornet's a total of 433. Kaylee Thieme
completed the varsity squad with a 122.
The Hornets battled the weather, the tough course and
their stiffest competition of the year. With all five returning
varsity players from the 2013 season, Chillicothe improved from 12th
to 9th and was able to cut 19 strokes off of last years tournament
results. The team continues to improve and expects to be even
better. The Hornets next competition is in the Pirate (Platte
County) Invitational, slated for Wednesday, but postponed to
Thursday, September 11, due to weather. |
