Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornet golf team traveled
to Platte County on Thursday, September 11 and participated in the
Pirate Invitational Golf Tournament at Shiloh Springs Golf Course.
Chillicothe finished fourth in the ten team event with a score of
427.
The Hornets Hannah Leamer placed tenth in the event
with a score of 97 and received a medal for her achievement. The
Chillicothe senior continued her consistent play, recording a five
on two of the par fives, including a dramatic putt from off the
green on hole number nine. Morgan Dowell shot a 107.
As Morgan's group approached the thirteen green,
I noticed there was a ball within inches of the pin. I was on edge
and then joyous as she was the player to head toward it and tap it
in for par.
Grace Venner shot a 109. Grace is able to avoid high
scores, because her chipping ability is sensational. Lauren Mason
shot a 114 and continues to strike the ball brilliantly. Lauren
played the long par threes as good as anyone. Paring two of them and
hitting a rare shot onto the signature eighteenth hole green. Kaylee
Thieme completed the squad with a round of 118. Kaylee pared the
twelfth hole and finished 26th in the 49 competitor field.
Smithville took top honors with a 359 and Ana Doval of
Staley High School was the medalist with a round of 76. The team
continues to work on their game and is determined to have their best
performances in the weeks to come. The Hornets will compete in
the Smith-Cotton Classic at Sedalia on Monday, September 15. |
