Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Lady Hornets Golf team traveled to
Cameron Monday for the MEC tournament at Cameron Memorial Golf Club.
Chillicothe placed fifth in the eight team event with a score of
430.
Smithville received top honors with a team score of
362. Senior Hannah Leamer of Chillicothe placed seventh with a round
of 97. Leah Shipley of Smithville collected medalist honors with a
score of 87.
Hannah got off to a rough start, shooting 53 on the
front side before reaching her stride and posting 43 on the back.
All three of the holes she pared were on the back. This makes the
fourth tournament in a row Hannah has received a medal.
Morgan Dowell continues to play solid golf and shot
105, including a par on the 5th hole. Junior Grace Venner's short
game helps her keep her score under control and entered a score of
106 on the day. Lauren Mason shot a 123 and Kaylee Thieme a 124 to
complete the hornet squad.
Golf is a humbling sport at times and the Lady Hornets
continue to anticipate their best rounds are ahead of them. Hannah
Leamer didn't give up after a few obstacles got in her way, and was
able to post a respectable score. Morgan Dowell is consistently
entering good scores and improving her game. Grace Venner plays her
best under the pressure. The Hornets travel to Brookfield and Lawson
this week, before hosting districts next Monday. |
