(Story by Coach Lance
We finished the tournament 5th place out of ten teams.
Last year we won the Red division title but this year's format
was different. All ten teams played three matches and the
winner was determined by point totals. 7 for a win, 3 for a
tie and 2 points for a shutout. They also awarded 1 point for
every 3 goals scored up to six goals. The maximum amount for
any win was 13.
We won our first match 3-2 over Mexico. Mexico scored
first in the 14th minute. Lindy scored on an 35 yard free kick
22 minutes into the first half. The halftime score was 1-1.
Lindy scored another goal 3 minutes into the first half and
Karson scored three minutes later. Mexico got a late Penalty
Kick and converted but we had the game in hand the whole time.
We received 8 points for the win. They are a possible district
opponent for us.
In the Saturday 9 o clock game we lost to a strong
Camdenton team. They were the winner from last year and also
took the title this year with 29 points.
They controlled the possession for most of the game but
our defense was great against their attack. Their goal came in
the first half off of a free kick from about 30 yards out. It
was struck perfectly and the ball slid just under the cross
bar into the upper right corner. Nothing Jaylene could do
We made some adjustments at halftime and we created a
few opportunities to score but couldn't find the net. With
thirty seconds left we were awarded a free kick and Morgan
Grable it a great shot that went over the keepers head and
glance off the crossbar. Score was 1-0.
In the third game we played Winfield, a St. Louis
suburb who had already picked up two wins. The game was back
and forth but no one managed to score. It ended in a 0-0 tie.
Which gave each team 5 points. We played minus three starters
but we got some good minutes from Natalie Minnick, Ruthie
Vinson, Mykel Heese and Gracie Ellis. Winfield ended up in
third place with 23 points.
Outstanding players for the tournament were Morgan
Grable, Lindy, Baily Fox and Mariah Cox.
