The Chillicothe Hornets soccer team overcame a sluggish first half and a one goal deficit to score 3 goals and record a victory over Savannah at Litton Memorial Stadium on Thursday.
Savannah scored with fifteen minutes left in the first half to take an early lead but Chillicothe made some key halftime adjustments and shut down the offense of Savannah in the second.
With ten minutes gone in the second half senior Lindy Saunders dribbled through several defenders and fired a shot over the head of the leaping goalkeeper to tie the game at on apiece.
Two minutes later Hannah Jones tracked down a pass from Harlie Jones and pushed the ball over the Savannah goal line to give Chilli the lead.
With 20 minutes left in the half, Chillicothe was awarded a corner kick and Saunders lifted a pass into the Savages goal box. Senior Hallee Jones just missed heading it in but the Savannah defense was left in confusion by
her attempt and the ball glanced off a Savage defender and into their goal. Saunders was credited with the goal.
Strong defensive play by Baily Fox, Hallee Jones, Morgan Grable, Jozie Reeter and keeper Jaylene Sturguess shut out Savannah for the remainder of the game.
Chillicothe raised its record to 9-7-1 as it prepares to play another game tomorrow at Marshall.
