District Semi Finals at Moberly

(From Coach Lance Harvey)
The Chillicothe Lady Hornets soccer team advanced to the district 15 championship game with a 5-1 victory over Mexico on Tuesday.
Twelve minutes into the game sophomore forward Karson Keithley collected free kick from senior Lindy Saunders and put away the shot in front of the goal. Keithley scored again five minutes later after outrunning her defender to the goal and firing a low shot into the back of the net.
In the 22nd minute, Hannah Jones put the Hornets up 3-0 with a right footed shot. Then with 8 minutes left in the half, Saunders floated another nice pass into the goal area which Hannah Jones redirected into the goal with her left foot.
The second half was back and forth but Mexico was able to break the shutout with 9 minutes left in the game. Chillicothe's defense tightened up after the goal and Saunders added an insurance goal with :22 seconds left off of a Sam Baldwin assist.
Aside from the goal scorers Coach Harvey commended the play of Jozie Reeter, Baily Fox, Mariah Cox, Sam Baldwin and Harlie Jones. He noted that the defense was very strong in front of the goal and was able to generate offense by passing effectively to the midfielders and forwards.
Goalkeeper Jaylene Sturguess recorded five saves in the victory.
The Hornets will face Moberly, a 3-1 winner over Kirksville, in the championship game on Thursday at 6:00.
