Lady
Hornets Head Coach Ed Douglas says: The Lady Hornets lost a
very close match losing 5-4 to defending State Champion Kansas
City Barstow at Barstow Tuesday. We knew this would be a very
tough match. That is why we scheduled it. Last year Barstow
beat us 5-0 in the first round of Sectionals on their way to a
State Championship. They are not as good as last year but
still very good.
To give you an idea how difficult it is to beat the few
elite private schools in tennis, the Barstow head coach was
not at this match. He was in Boston recruiting eighth
graders—Really.
Saying that Sydnie and Ali both won at #1 and #2
singles against very good players and also at #1 doubles. Syd
and Al never cease to amaze me. They are that good.
Jozie Reeter’s win at #4 singles was also a really good
win over a very good player. That has to be Jozie’s best
singles win of the season by far.
So going from 0-5 last year we got this match to 4-5
which was a real achievement. You need matches like that if
you are going to get better. We could have not scheduled them
but if you want to be the best you have to play the best.
Assistant Coach Amanda Marsh said” we were really
proud of all the girls and how they played. Everyone gave a
great effort today.”
With the loss the Hornets went to 11-2 on the year.
