One
Chillicothe's two wrestlers at the State Wrestling Meet both
survived the first day of action and will continue to compete
on Friday.
132 pound Junior Aaron Baker survived a close
opening match when he picked up a pin with 3 seconds left in
the match to beat Kedric Brink (Sr 41-11) from Monett. Baker
will compete Friday morning in the quarter finals against
Kirksville Freshman Jarrett Jacques, who has a 41-1 record.
Jacques beat a St Clair Junior with a losing record by pin in

pound Senior Matt Shaffer lost his opening match to Grant
Taylor (Jr 38-5) by technical fall 15-0 22 seconds into the
second period Shaffer suffered a take down and 3 near falls to
trail 11-0 in the first quarter.
Shaffer then won his first round wrestleback
match over Ben Turnbough (Fr 33-13) of Potosi by forfeit. No
other details were available.
Shaffer will compete Friday in the second round of
wrestlebacks against the loser of Olen Brattin (Jr 51-1) of
Pleasant Hill and Tristan Stack (Jr 31-22) of Oak Grove.

Two
Aaron Baker had a busy day,
winning 2 out of 3 matches. Baker started with a 15-2 loss to
Jarrett Jacques (Fr 43-1) of Kirksville in the quarterfinals.
In the 2nd round of wrestlebacks, Baker pinned Brock Mercer (Jr
35-16) of oak Grove in 1:35. Then Baker extracted revenge from
a loss in Districts when he edged Brody Lamb (Sr 39-15) of
Smithville 10-8 in sudden victory to assure him of a medal.
Matt Shaffer's career came to an end early in the day
when he lost to Wyatt Harrell (Jr 31-7) of Owensville by pin
in 2:28. Shaffer ends the season at 37-11
Day Three
Aaron Baker has finished with a
4th place medal at 132 pounds. Baker beat Jadin Taylor of
Mexico (Sr 33-11) by a score of 7-3 to advance to the 3rd
place match. There, Baker lost to Tanner Jones (47-6) of St
Genevieve 9-0. Baker ended the season at 46-7. |
