Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornet Girls' Golf Team (4-1) played in
a quad with Cameron, Lafayette, and Benton at Cameron Veteran's Memorial
Golf Club in Cameron. The Hornets won the competition with a score of 209.
Benton placed second with 240 and Cameron at 273. The Hornet squad had the
top three scores with medalist Grace Venner at 46, Lauren Mason 48, and
Hannah Sherrow with a score of 53. Grace improved her score from a year
ago by 8 strokes. The senior scored par on the par 3 fifth hole. Senior
Lauren Mason shot par on the long par 4 fourth hole. Sophomore Hannah
Sherrow shot her second 53 on the season (in as many matches). Hannah shot
a 3 on the par 3 seventh, with a brilliant tee shot to the back of the
green. Freshman Lexi Hargrave completed the Hornet score with a round of
62. Lexi continues to improve her swing and confidence. Freshman Lauren
Price rounded out the varsity with a score of 67.
The team hopes to return to Cameron for sectional
play in October. Grace and Lauren are hitting the ball beautifully. Hannah
Sherrow's hard work has paid off and she is a dependable member of the
varsity squad. With several new players, each scoring within a few
strokes, anyone of them could find a rhythm and secure a spot on the
varsity. The constant competition creates an enjoyable practice. The
varsity travel to St Joseph on Thursday to play in the Central
