Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornets Girls' Golf Team (4-1)
participated in the Pirate Invitational at Shiloh Springs Golf Course. The
Hornets placed fifth in the ten team event hosted by Platte County.
Smithville won the competition with a team score of 345, followed by Park
Hill South at 386, Platte County 409, Liberty North 451 and Chillicothe
with a score of 456. Abby Harmeyer of Smithville won medalist with a score
of 81 followed by teammate Trace Mosby with an 82.
Senior Grace Venner tied for ninth place with a score
of 100. Grace began the day on the par 3 fourteenth by hitting her tee
shot within 10 feet of the pin and two putts later recording a score of
par. Grace also pared the signature par 3 eighteenth hole. Senior Lauren
Mason shot a 113. Lauren's tee shot on eighteen was headed directly at the
pin, which was located on the front of the green, but came up just a
little short. Lauren chipped and two putted for a four on the hole.
Senior Courtney Reger shot a 123 in her first varsity
action of the season. Courtney's tee shot on the par 3 seventh ran down
the tree line on the right. Fortunately the hole sloped from right to left
and her ball ran directly by the flag. Courtney was able to get up and in
for a four on the hole. Sophomore Hannah Sherrow shot a 120. Hannah shot a
4 on the par 4 seventeenth hole, followed by a 4 on the eighteenth hole.
Freshman Lexi Hargrave completed the Hornet roster with a 128.
The Lady Hornets are growing in confidence each time
out. Hole's one and eighteen have a pond to hit over and the hornets
landed on dry ground 8 out of the 10 opportunities (including both by
freshman Lexi Hargrave). On hole one, Courtney Reger's second shot
required a precision shot between the cart path and bunker. She proclaimed
she was going for it, and then proceeded to hit the shot eventually
scoring a five on the par 4. The Hornet's travel to Sedalia on Monday,
September 14 for the Smith-Cotton Classic. |
