Story by Coach Bob Long
The Chillicothe Hornet Golf Team (4-1) competed in the
Smith-Cotton Classic at the Sedalia Country Club golf course. The event
featured 18 teams with Chillicothe entering a team score of 449. Olivia
Sobaski of Sacred Heart high school won the medalist with a score of 67.
Seniors Grace Venner and Lauren Mason each entered a score of
110. Grace battled all day, parring the par 3 second hole. Lauren's hard
work at putting and chipping is beginning to pay off. Senior Courtney
Reger scored a 118. On the par 3 seventh into a steady breeze, Courtney
was encouraged by her coach to hit her 5 wood ("no one has made it to the
green in the previous 4 groups"). Despite her apprehension of possibly
hitting it over the green into the hazzard, Courtney gave in, hitting a
perfect shot onto the back fringe, eventually recording a four on the
hole. The continually improving sophomore Hannah Sherrow shot a 111.
Hannah recorded a three on the par 3 second hole and was saved by her
putter on several holes. Freshman Lexi Hargrave shot a 122. Lexi hit a
terrific tee shot on the par 3 fourth hole, only to have the wind push it
into the corner of the bunker. Lexi hit a good shot out of the sand and
two putted for a solid four.
The team and individual rankings will be forwarded as soon as
received. The Hornets host the Chillicothe Invitational on Thursday,
September 17 at Green Hills Golf Course. |
