Story by Coach Bob Long
The Green Hills Golf Course hosted the District 7
girls' golf tournament. Eleven teams and 52 participants competed for the
opportunity to move on to sectionals. Brookfield won the team competition
with a score of 381, along with Gallatin scoring 408, secured an automatic
team invitation to the sectional competition in Cameron on Monday, October
5. Macon finished third with a score of 419 and Chillicothe placed eighth
with a team score of 452. Emily VanRie of Kirksville won medalist honors
with a score of 74, followed by Samantha Cornelius of Penney High School
shooting a 76.
Senior Grace Venner of Chillicothe shot a 107 and tied
for eighteenth (one stroke from being in the top 15 and all district
honors). Grace parred the par 5 twelfth hole. Senior Courtney Reger and
Sophomore Hannah Sherrow each shot 112, tying for twenty third. Grace,
Courtney, and Hannah qualify as individuals for sectional competition.
Courtney parred the par 3 second hole and par 4 fourteenth hole. Hannah
Sherrow parred the par 4 eighth hole. Senior Lauren Mason shot a 123.
Lauren had several moments of success, but couldn't overcome a few stray
shots. Lauren parred the par 3 second hole. Freshman Lexi Hargrave shot a
121 for 36th place, nine strokes from qualifying for sectionals. Lexi is
the most consistent player on the team, now with a years' experience, has
potential success in her future.
Grace Venner, Courtney Reger, and Hannah Sherrow will
compete Monday, October 5 at the Cameron Veterans Memorial Course. Thanks
to Craig Sager, Russ Madsen, Dave Mapel, and the Green Hills Golf Course
staff. Thanks to all of the volunteers (it is great to live in a community
that supports the school and the youth in the area). |
