(Story by Coach Lance Harvey)
The Chillicothe Lady Hornets soccer team lost to Excelsior Springs by a score of 4-0 on Thursday. The Hornets defense smothered the offensive attack of the Lady Tigers and the offense generated several scoring opportunities but could not find the back of the net. The first half ended with a 0-0 tie. However the second half was a different story as Excelsior Springs was able to make some adjustments that allowed talented midfielder Kelsey Mueller to find openings in front of the goal. She responded with a three goal performance in the second half. The Hornets struggled to find an answer offensively against the strong Excelsior defense and remained scoreless. The loss evens their record at 1-1 on the season.
Chillicothe coach, Lance Harvey, stated, "It's very early in the season and we are still figuring out how to play together in a new system with a lot of new faces. Excelsior is a very skilled team. Teams like that are hard to keep out of the goal, even when the defense plays well. But we like playing competition like that because it gets us ready for the end of the season when it really matters most. We'll just continue to get better every practice, every game looking towards districts."
Chillicothe plays next at home against Smithville on Tuesday at 5.
