a victory in the win column, but the Chillicothe Lady Hornets
picked up a huge moral victory in a 2-0 loss to perennial
state girls soccer power Smithville at Chillicothe. The game
marked the first time in Chillicothe girls soccer history that
the game went the full time allotted. The previous nine
meetings had all resulted in Smithville winning 10-0.
Smithville scored with 16:36 left in the first half and
again 6 minutes later to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Neither team scored in the second half. The majority of the
game was played in front of the Chillicothe net with coal
keeper Jaylene Sturguess making several big saves.
Smithville thought they had a third goal late in the
game when they netted the ball of a deflection, but the goal
was waved off by the officials.
