Westphal Wins MEC Singles Title

Chillicothe

Comments:
"This is an individual tournament. Kelly Westphal
took first place singles in our conference, winning a much deserved
1st place medal. Kelly just keeps a level head and presses on, she's
not afraid to play a long point being patient for her opponent to
make a mistake or for her to have the perfect chance to hit a
winner. She plays so smart! She is looking very strong heading into
districts.
"Our doubles team of Julia Minnis and Renee Downing
also looked strong. They play very differently, but compliment each
other very well. Julia's net play is unbelievable. If the ball gets
anywhere close to her at the net, she is going to finish the point.
Renee is so consistent and strategizes very well for each team they
play. They were second in the conference, losing to the Maryville
number 1 doubles team. We will get another chance to play them at
districts and are looking forward to it.
"Gracy Reeter played singles for us today. She is a
brand new player with so much athletic ability and competitive
nature. She did not place in the tournament, but had an early draw
of second place singles player from Savannah. Winning or losing,
Gracy is never going to give up. I'm very proud of the way she
played and the player she is becoming!
Our second doubles team of Caitlyn Fechtig and Madison Gipe played
for 5th and lost to Maryville's #2 team. They had a tough draw as
well and won some good matches. This is their first appearance in
post season play and they are learning and growing with every match.
They have really improved through out the season."
