Hornet Wrestlers Send Three to State
Baker District Champion, Adkins and
Burton are 4th
<Complete Season Scores>
Chillicothe Senior Aaron Baker ran the gauntlet of one of the
toughest brackets in the District Tournament and earned his first
district championship, winning the 132 pound weight class. Baker
beat wrestlers from Excelsior Springs and Odessa in the first two
rounds, then beat the defending 120 pound state champion from Oak
Grove in the semi-finals. In the championship, he handed a Savannah
wrestler his first loss of the year in a thrilling 5-4 victory. The
Savannah wrestler had beaten Baker in the Conference tournament
earlier this year. Baker's district championship is the first for
Chillicothe since 2009. He becomes just the 5th wrestler to qualify
for the state tournament all four years, and will try to become just
the second wrestler in school history to be a four time state
medalist.
Also advancing to the state tournament from
Chillicothe is Dean Adkins who finished 4th at 170lbs and Kayde
Burton who finished 4th at 195 pounds. It will be the first state
tournament for both wrestlers. |
