Coach Bob Long Says:
     The Chillicothe Hornets boys' tennis team (2-7) was one of the seven teams competing in the Midland Empire Conference tennis tournament on Wednesday at Noyes Courts in St Joseph. Junior Tyler Maasdam and Sophomore Grahm Mayers were the number four seed in the doubles competition and finished fifth. Tyler and Grahm lost their opening match against Hayes and Baker from Maryville, which placed them in the consolation side of the tournament, and made fifth place their best possible finish. They were able to avenge their initial defeat and beat a quality team from Savannah in the consolation final. Junior Matt Callen and senior Gunnar Young after a bye and a win lost to the Savannah duo of Collier and Hegeman. Junior Seth Batye defeated the number two player from Lafayette and competed in both of his defeats. Junior Colten Johnson received his first varsity competition, beginning with the Cameron number one player David Beasley. Colten was ahead 4-3 before the experienced Beasley took over. In his second match, Colten defeated Lafayette's number one player in a hard fought match. In his final match, Colten lost to the eventual consolation winner.
     Bostyn Horn of Benton won the singles competition over Tage Young of Savannah (Tyler Maasdam defeated Young 8-4 in dual competition). Kempf/Hermelink of Maryville defeated Johnson/Rudel of Savannah in the doubles final.
