The Chillicothe Hornets opened their season with an abbreviated win at Marshall 30-0 in a game that was stopped at halftime due to a lightening storm.
      Lightening moved in from the north at halftime and the teams and crowd were ushered into the school building. After a delay, both head coaches agreed the game would not continue and the 30-0 halftime score would be the final score.
     The Hornets put together their opening drive. After a flag and a no gain, a 21 yard pass play from Jack Willard to Trace Staton loosened up the Marshall defense. The Hornets rattled off 6 straight running plays with the final one from Brett Shaffer going 16 yards for the score
    The Hornets defense held Marshall on a 3rd and 1 and took over near mid field. Marshall mistakes but a tough Owl defense held the Hornets to a 39 yard Jack Willard field goal

     In the second quarter, two Marshall screen passes were stopped for losses, a Quarterback sack made it 4th and 20. The Hornets Brett Shaffer fielded the punt at the 45 yard line, headed cross field to the Marshall sideline and went in behind a wall of blockers for a 45 yard punt return touchdown
     Marshall picked up their only first down on a 30 yard play but could do little else, failing to convert a 4th and 6 near mid field.
     Chillicothe stayed with the ground game, marching down field to score on a Josh Kille 3 yard run. On the kick off, Willard sent a pooch kick to the Chillicothe sideline where Konner Sewell recovered it to give Chillicothe a 1st down on the Marshall 30 yard line. 5 plays later Kille again punched it in from 3 yards out but Willard missed the PAT for the final 30-0 score
