Their was a definite private school feel in the first of two days of
Class 1 MSHSAA Girls Golf Championship in Columbia. Cape Girardeau
Notre Dame had the top two golfers and lead after day one, Pembroke
Hill is in 2nd place and had the 3rd best golfer and John Burroughs
is in 3rd place in the team race with a Visitation Academy golfer in
4th place.
For Chillicothe, freshman Hallie Jones is near the top
third of the competitors with a score of 97 and is tied for 35th
place. Other area golfers, Samantha Cornelius of Penney High of
Hamilton is tied for 7th with an 84, Trenton's Werthen Gass shot a
94 and is tied for 31st place, Gallatin's Kelli Lynch is tied for
43rd, Brookfield's Laken Sattman is tied for 49th, Gallatin's Megan
Cox is 69th and Sarabeth Michael of Gallatin is in 84th place out of
92 golfers.
Maryville is in 5th place in the team race with a 400.
The second day of Class 1 State Golf was cancelled due
to rain. Chillicothe Coach Robert Long said Jones started on Hole
#10, shooting a 51 on the back nine and finishing with a 46 on the
front nine including a birdie on the Par 4 second hole.
Long had high praise for Jones' freshman season.
