Coach Bob Long Says:
The Chillicothe Hornets boys' tennis team (1-2) was one of the
eight teams competing in the Cameron Invitational tennis
tournament on Wednesday.
Senior Tyler Maasdam was seeded third
and finished in third place. After defeating Melton from
Savannah and Fraser from Kirksville, Tyler was looking for
revenge against 2018 state singles qualifier Gabe Swann from
Trenton. Gabe ended Tyler's post season in a 2018 district
match. The players traded leads with the match heading for a
tie-breaker. Gabe won the tie-breaker and defeated
Kirksville's number one Bennett Hoshaw for the singles title.
Tyler defeated Maryville's number one player, Mason Walk 8-2,
for third place.
Senior Seth Batye picked up one win, over
Trenton's Otto. Junior Grahm Mayers and Senior Colton Johnson
defeated Walker and Tornatore (Kirksville's #1 doubles entry).
Trenton's duo of Nick Shields/Creed Houghton won the doubles
championship over Cho/Hepler of Warrensburg. The Hornets
travel to St Pius on Thursday, March 28.
