Chillicothe scored on
their opening drive and went on to a 42-7 win over St Joseph Benton
for the Hornets' Senior Night.
On the first play of the game, Benton fielded just ten
players and Chillicothe used a kneel down play as a show of respect
for a Benton Sophomore Defensive player who took his own life
earlier in the week.
The Hornets scored on their opening drive and used
their strong running game to counter Benton's pass-happy offense.
The Hornets defense held Benton to three plays and
punt. Chillicothe lost the ball on their first play, Benton
recovered but on a fourth and goal at the three yard line, a Benton
pass fell incomplete.
Chillicothe responded with a 7 play, 97 yards
drive highlighted by a 36 yard run from Isaac Rasche and a 25 yard
run by Quarterback Jaden Winder.
Benton's next offensive series was another three and
out. Chillicothe used just five plays to score, including pass
completions for 29 yards to Julius Humphrey and a beautiful 26 yard
pass into the end zone to Colten Sewell, which floated just over the
defenders arms and dropped over the shoulder into Sewell's arms.
Chillicothe's reserves played much of the fourth
quarter. Benton's only score was a fumble recovery from a Hornets
pass play that was returned to the end zone.
The final scoring drive for Chillicothe had reserve
Senior running back Allen Eakins carry the ball all seven times. The
drive was highlighted by Benton being called for two unsportsmanlike
penalties on the same play, for a total of 30 yards in penalties
during the drive.
