. The Lady
Hornets Softball team saved their offense until the final two
innings to beat Blair Oaks 8 to 5 in a battle of two state
ranked teams at the University of Missouri Softball Field.
Blair Oaks beat Chillicothe last season in the State
Championship game.
Blair Oaks scored one in the first then hit a lead off
home run in the fourth on the second pitch to left field for a
2-0 Lady Falcons lead.
Things heated up in the fifth when Blair Oaks
scored one on fly ball to left field, had a walk then took a
5-0 lead in the 5th with a fly ball to left field to score one
and later reached on an error that scored two more to lead
5-0.
The Lady Hornets cranked up their offense in the
bottom of the fifth with a walk, a double by Helton,
intentionally walked Boley only to have Bonderer double to
score two. The next batter Pithan singled to bring home Boley.
Blair Oaks went three up, three down in the
sixth. Then, Chillicothe did what they do best, they went to
work.
In the bottom of the sixth Palmer doubled,
Beemer singled, and Stoner singled to score two. After their
first out of the inning Helton was hit by a pitch and Boley
brought her home when she cranked a 2 and 2 pitch for a Grand
Slam Home Run to left field.
Boley then sewed up the game with a three up
three down top of the seventh. Chillicothe improves to 23-6
while Blair Oaks falls to 23-7 |
