Story by Coach Grable
The Lady Hornets soccer team took on Kirksville on Monday night up in Kirksville, MO. The Lady Hornets were looking to continue the good streak of quality play for this young team. The Lady Tigers would come out strong, but the Lady Hornet defense of Anya Moore, Emerson Stefancik, Amyah McKinnis and Brynley Beemer would hold strong. Goalkeeper Layla McKinnis would make some fine saves to keep the game scoreless the first 25 minutes of the match. Kirksville would finally get on board with a shot from outside that would go right under the crossbar to make it 1-0 for the home team. With a few moments left in the 1st half, Kirksville would strike again to make the halftime score 2-0.
The Lady Hornets would rebound in the 2nd half to continue to put pressure on the Lady Tigers by denying any good opportunities. The Lady Tigers would then find some rhythm half way through the 2nd half and score 3 more goals to make it 5-0. However, the resilient Lady Hornets would find the back of the net with under 2 minutes to play to make the final 5-1. Sophie Hurtgen would thread the ball through to Charlee Hibner who converted a 1 on 1 with the Kirksville keeper.
The varsity record is now 6-10 on the season (3-4 MEC Conference)
